Five days can be a slower Chiang Mai stay or a two-base trip. Add Chiang Rai when its sights are a real priority and you are comfortable changing hotels.
Two workable approaches
One base: city, nature, a focused experience, rest and an easy departure day. Two bases: three days around Chiang Mai and two around Chiang Rai, with the start and finish checked before booking flights.
Check multi-day costs
Ask for guest accommodation, any driver overnight costs, intercity transport and activities to be itemised. Do not simply multiply a one-day price without checking the route and overnight arrangements.
